Growing Herbs Indoors

Herbs Indoors

Herbs are not house plants, and all except for the tenderest species need to spend most of their time outdoors if they are to thrive well.

Having said that, like a pot of basil on a indoor window sill will, when the window is open release it's spicy odour every time the wind moves the leaves- Let's cut to the chase--

Herbs Growing on The Window Sill
Apart from herbs that love shade, such as scented-leaved Geraniums, most herbs remain in good condition only for a short time on domestic window sills, due to the lack of direct sunlight.

What to do
The best way to keep a supply of herbs near at hand is to grow several pots of each kind outdoors, changing them as they start to look a bit sickly or drawn looking. All herbs thrive better out doors.

Again now in this modern world we can buy great lighting that will replace natural sun light-However I am working on the fact we do not want to spend huge amounts of money-

My advice is this--
Herbs like all the plant world need proper watering and fertilizes to flourish-that is your starting factor, then just like having a Bonsai plant kept inside for a few days, they get sad,so then swap them with others that are outside,if this is not available to you make sure you put your pot herbs in direct sunlight when you can-but I mean by this open the window, sunlight through glass is not the same.

I feel great herbs to start your indoor garden are,Basil,Mint,Sage are but a few,but if they are looking sad take them to a friends house if you are unable to give them some direct sunlight and leave for a few days.

Check out your local garden center for information on lighting, but do not spend a fortune as you might as well buy them from a supermarket-They will never taste the same as fresh herbs.
